Here’s a great drill to improve your consistency and accuracy from long range. The Ladder Drill is designed to improve putting from longer distances and help eliminate those 3 and 4 putts and give yourself the opportunity to have more tap ins from inside 3 feet from the hole.
Place a tee in the ground in a line, you choose the distance you want to work on, for our example we will use 3 feet, 6 feet, 9 feet, etc., up to 30 feet away. In this drill, you are attempting to control the distance you hit each putt. The ladder drill begins by hitting a putt to the cup from the first tee, which is 3 feet away. Next, hit a 6-foot putt, then a 9-foot putt, followed by a 12-foot putt and so on up to a 30 foot putt. The idea is to get the ball to stop as close to the cup as possible. The next step is to theoretically close the ladder. From the last tee hit a 30-foot putt, followed by 27-foot putt, followed by a 24-foot putt and so on to the hole.
